Full Description

Two sections of zig-zag trench, both c 30m long, can be seen on 1941 aerial photographs (S1) in the northern part of Southwold, just south of Buss Creek. The trench to the west can also be seen on photographs from 1940 (S2), although the eastern one does not appear to have been dug by this date. By 1943 this westerly trench is barely visible (S3), while the easterly trench can still be seen clearly. These trenches are evidence of activity in this area during World War II and may have played a part in defending Buss Creek, which they are located very close to.
