Description

TM 15 SE SWILLAND GRUNDISBURGH ROAD 1/18 Barn and stable, 50 metres - north-west of Red Court - II Barn, late C16. 5 bays; a further 2 bays at south end, comprising a stable with hay-loft above. Lean-to midstrey and other extensions of C19. Timber- framed and weather-boarded; the original wattle-and-daub infill panels survive in part. Roman pantiled roof. Good close-studwork with arch-type wind- bracing. Wind-braced clasped-purlin roof. The upper floor over the stable has good chamfered joists. A barn combined with stabling in a single range is an unusual survival for Suffolk from as early as the C16. Listing NGR: TM1893052902
