Description

TM 14 NE TUDDENHAM ST. MARTIN THE STREET 3/29 Church Farmhouse - II House, formerly farmhouse. Mid C16 with alterations of C19 and C20. 2 storeys and attics. 3-cell cross-passage entrance plan. Timber-framed and plastered; wings to the front and rear of plastered red brick. Plaintiled roofs, the main range hipped at right. Internal and gable chimneys of red brick. C20 casements with leaded lights, hipped plaintiled bay windows at ground floor. 1-storey plaintiled entrance porch with boarded door. Large open fireplace to hall, probably backing against cross-passage. Steeply- cambered arch-braced tie-beam at central open truss; coupled-rafter roof. Blocked diamond-mullion windows. The original structure is largely of elm timber. Rear 1-storey extension with large open fireplace, probably kitchen or brewhouse, added late C18. Restored c.1980 after period of dereliction.
