2/18 Lincoln's Barn

Barn. Late C16. Timber-framed and weatherboarded; corrugated iron roof. Frame in 3 bays, with an entry into the middle bay. Full height scuds; cambered tie-beams with long arched braces. Clasped purlin roof with diminished principals, single windbraces to the outer bays, and a pair of windbraces to the middle bay. The threshing-floor is paved with limestone slabs. From 1640 to c.1700 this barn was used as a meeting place by the Baptists in Framlingham. Thomas Mills (cf. entries for Tomb House, Garden House and the Mills Almshouses) attended these meetings from the time of his apprenticeship in Framlingham, and frequently preached in the barn.
