Farmhouse. Probably late C15, the central range raised and re- roofed late C17. Central range with cross wings at each end. Timber framed and plastered, plaintiled roof. 2 storeys, the central range with a now disused attic. Late C17/early C18 casement windows, mostly with square leaded panes; cross passage entry: doorway of same date with 4-panel bolection moulded door, hood on console brackets, broken ogee pediment with scrolled terminals; central range with rusticated surrounds to the windows and doorway and a heavy moulded modillion eaves cornice, broken over the windows. The right hand wing has a jettied first floor on carved buttress shafts and an oriel window with carved sill showing a dog and stag supporting a shield bearing the arms of the de Uffords, EarlS of Suffolk, with small figures of a man and dog to the extreme left and right. Internal stack to central range with moulded base and 4 grouped hexagonal flues; internal stack to right hand wing, rebuilt external stack to left hand wing. Fully panelled early C18 ground floor room with painted panels over the fireplace and one doorway; another room has C17 panelling with painted overmantel and a brick fireplace with 4-centre arch; further panelling in cross passage. Main staircase with twisted balusters; late C17 ornamental plaster ceiling to main first floor room with a running floral design on the main beams; several fine internal doors, 3 of which in the main first floor room have been painted to resemble tortoiseshell.CountrY Life 25.9.58 (pp.650-1).
