Description

SOUTH ELMHAM ST. JAMES ST. JAMES' ROAD TM 38 SW 4/56 Laurel Farmhouse - II Farmhouse. Late C16/early C17. 2 storeys; attic to part; L-shaped plan, with a main range and cross-wing. Timber-framed and rendered; black glazed pantiles. An internal chimney-stack, set between the 2 ranges, with a tall plain rebuilt-red brick shaft, partly rendered; a later end stack on the left, set externally, has a pair of short square shafts with attached heads. The main range has 2 old 3-light casement windows to each floor, those on the upper floor with wooden hood-moulds in Tudor style; the cross-wing has 3-light casements with horizontal glazing-bars to the ground and first floors and a 2- light window in the attic. Entrance into a full-height C19 porch abutting on the internal stack: whitewashed brick, sloping single-pitch roof, 6 flush panels to door, the top 2 glazed, and a hood-mould above. Plain main beams exposed inside. Listing NGR: TM3223681381
