Description

SOUTH ELMHAM, ST. MICHAEL TM 38 SE 5/75 Cartlodge/Granary at - Boundary Farm GV II A cartlodge with granary or hayloft above, now used for stabling. Mid C16. Timber-framed; rendered on the upper floor; one side of the ground floor, facing north-west and formerly open, is infilled with painted blockwork. Clay pantiles. 2 stable doors on the ground floor and 2 upper doors on the north- west side. Fine frame in 5 bays: ground floor ceilings with closely-set flat unchamfered joists and large chamfered main beams. The ground floor area is divided into 2, and the partition carried up into the roof. On the upper floor are blocked diamond-mullioned windows. Cranked arched braces at the corners, and similar larger braces to the tie-beams. Queen-post roof. The farmstead to which this building belongs stands at the junction of 3 parishes; the farmhouse is listed under Ilketshall St. Margaret. Listing NGR: TM3564483414
