Description

BRAMPTON LONDON ROAD TM 48 SW 3/10 Brampton Hall 1.9.53 II House, at one time the rectory. 1796. Red brick, roof of glazed black pantiles. 3 storeys. Symmetrical 5-bay facade: inset sash windows with glazing bars under flat brick arches. Good doorway, approached by a flight of 4 stone steps: inset 6-panel door in 2 hinged halves, semi-circular fanlight with radiating glazing bars, panelled reveals; Roman Doric portico on smooth columns and pilasters, entablature with triglyphs and mutules, the triglyphs alternating with square sunk panels. Wooden modillion eaves cornice. 3-bay left hand return front. The stairwell has an Adam-style ceiling with central rosette and ornate cornice. Well staircase with stick balusters and carved ends to the treads. Both principal grouna floor rooms have marble fireplaces, one with detachea columns, the other with a centre tablet depicting a classical scene in relief; these 2 rooms have plaster cornices.
