Description

SHADINGFIELD TM 48 SW 3/25 Hall Farmhouse II Farmhouse. C17-C18 with early C19 addition to south east forming L shape plan. There is evidence of considerable alteration and it is possible that the house incorporates parts or materials of the mid C16 manor house which stood on the site. Red brick, formerly colourwashed; main range with plaintiles to front and pantiles to rear, south range with hipped roof of glazed black pantiles. 2 storeys. 4 windows, various casements; doorway with 6-panel bolection-moulded door, the upper 2 panels glazed. Brick dentil eaves cornice above which is a course of bricks set diamondwise. To the north is a parapet gable end with integral stack. The south range has higher eaves but a lower roof ridge. 3 windows: the earlier part with 3-light casements under segmental arches, the early C19 addition with inset sash windows with glazing bars under flat brick arches. Early C19 doorway with inset 6-panel door and rectangular fanlight, above which is a key in the form of a carved wooden head; panelled reveals, small gabled hood. On the earlier part are the wrought iron letters 'TCS'. 2 ground floor rooms in the main range have floor beams with double stop-chamfers and exposed joists, probably of mid C17 date.
