Description
WILLINGHAM LONDON ROAD TM 48 NW 5/57 Barn 40m north of Moat - Farmhouse - II Barn. Late C17/early C18. Timber framed, partly weatherboarded but brick- nogged and plastered where later buildings adjoin. Red brick parapet gable ends. Pantiled roof. 5 bays with a central cart entrance. The frame has full-height oak studs and arched-bracing. 3 of the 4 open trusses retain their original bracing. The easternmost bay was originally floored: there is evidence for 4-light diamond-mullioned windows to both floors, although only one mullion remains. The roof is complete, in 9 bays, with 2 rows of unstepped butt purlins and plank wind-bracing. The gable facing the road has a simple geometric design in raised brickwork within a square sunk panel. A good intact barn of its date, and very similar to the one close by at New House Farm, Weston (Item No. 5/54).
