Description

UPPER STREET 1. 5377 (West Side) Stanstead Stanstead Hall TL 84 NW 5/796 II 2. A C16-C17 red brick house which retains its original appearance although much altered and renovated in the C19 and C20. Some of the brickwork is original. A wing extends to the north. 2 storeys. 1:1:1 window range on the south front and 2 window range on the east and west fronts. 2 and 3-light casement windows (C20), with square hood moulds. The centre part of the south front, of 1 window range, breaks forward with a 2 storeyed porch with a Dutch gable. There are Dutch gables flanking the porch and the east and west fronts have 2 Dutch gables. A raised brick dentilled band extends across the east, west and south fronts between the storeys. Roof double-pitched, with 2 original chimney stacks with 4 grouped octagonal shafts (probably rebuilt). The north wing has a chimney stack with 2 octagonal shafts. Listing NGR: TL8438749221
