TM 03 SE BRANTHAM BRANTHAM HILL (WEST 7/15 SIDE) 22.2.55 Braham Hall II House of several builds. C16 or earlier. Timber framed and plastered rear ranges with some red brick ranges, red plain tiled roofs. C18/C19 gault brick facing to front and left return. Large, steeply pitched, hipped grey slate roof, projecting eaves. Hipped central forward range with lower roof level. 2 gault brick chimney stacks to rear left, external stack to right of forward range and a stack to centre right of main range. End stacks to lower rear ranges. 2 storeys. Central band. 2:1:2 window range of mainly small paned vertically sliding sashes excepting 2 horizontal sliding sashes to first floor right, 2 double lights to ground floor right and an angled central bay to ground floor. C19 flat headed porch, 2 panel 2 light door, fanlight over, moulded surround to right of left range. Vertically boarded door, segmental head to left of right range. Former seat of the Braham Family. Thomas Tusser 1527-1580 author of "500 points of Good Husbandrie"; published 1557 lived here and is believed to have written the book here. P G M Dickinson. The Little Guide to Suffolk 1957.
