Description

THE GREEN 1. 5377 (North East Side) Newton Brook's Farmhouse TL 94 SW 9/740 lO.1.53. II 2. A C16-C17 timber-framed and plastered house. Restored and renovated in the C20 with modern doors and windows but in style. A narrow gabled 3 storeyed wing projects on the front, probably a staircase wing added in the C17. The upper storey is jettied on the north-west end of the front on either side of the wing, on exposed joists. The timber-framing is exposed on most of the south-west and north-west fronts. The house is mainly 2 storeys. The windows are casements with leaded lights. 2 gabled porches project on the front. The porches and the 3 storey wing have carved bargeboards (C20), to an old design. At the south-east end a slightly lower wing extends, probably this was originally a granary or outbuilding, but now converted to become part of the dwelling. The wing at the rear on the north-west end has a large external chimney stack with tabled offsets. Roofs tiled, hipped at the north-west and south-east ends. Listing NGR: TL9195240560
