Description

In the entry for Nayland with Wissington 15/598 Wiston Hall, Wiston The descriptive notes should be amended to read 2. 1791 by Sir John Soane for Samuel Beechcroft, a director of the Bank of England. An enlargement of a very small house. No elevations survive in the Soane Museum but there is a plan and some accounts. The house was enlarged again in the 1860s. Red brick house. Two storeys, attics and cellars. Three window range, double-hung sashes with glazing bars. The ground storey windows extend down to floor level, with stuccoed reveals. A central modern glazed door has a stucco doorcase with pilaster and cornice. Roof tiled, with a dentilled eave course and ornamental crest files. A wing extends at rear (1860s extension). Small tablet with initials SB and the date 1791 Get high up in the east wall of house. Nayland with Wissington 1. 5377 Wiston Hall, Wiston TL 93 SE 15/598 II 2.
