Description

TM 13 NW STUTTON off BENTLEY ROAD 1/69 Argent Manor House GV II House. C15/C16 with later alterations and additions. Timber framed and rough rendered. Red plain tiled roof. Central chimney stack with 4 attached octagonal shafts. 2 storeys and attics. Single storey C19/C20 right red brick extension with end chimneystack, probably a former kitchen/bakehouse. 2:2 window range of C20 small paned casements, C20 gabled porch and door. Rear range. Internally much of the frame is covered but there are heavy chamfered and boxed-in bridging joists on jowled storey posts to ground floor. The chimneystack is blocked but coved out- ward to ceiling joists on ground floor. Jowled storey posts to first floor. One arched brace remains to tie-beam. Halved and bridled top plate scarf. Rear wing appears to be C19/C20 of reused timber. There is a cast iron fireplace with moulded surround in a bedroom. A Roger Argent is mentioned in the Subsity Rolls of 1295 and the present owner holds a copy of'n indenture relating to the property dated 36th year of King Charles II. Listing NGR: TM1452735912
