Description

TM 07 SW WALSHAM LE WILLOWS CROWNLAND ROAD 3/45 Fir Tree Farmhouse II Farmhouse. Early C17. Timber-framed and roughcast with thatched roof. 2 storeys; 3-cell lobby-entrance plan. The internal chimney-stack has a plain shaft of old red brick; a later stack and a slated single-storey lean-to addition on the right. 3 3-light casement windows to the upper floor, one old, with pintle hinges, all with square leading. 3 3-light casement windows to the ground floor, 2 with transomes and cross-bars, one with cross-bars only. c19 entrance door with 6 flush panels. Frame in 4 bays, including a chimney-bay. Good close-studding without visible bracing inside; to the right of the stack, the ground floor ceiling has a main beam with chamfer and jewel stops and plain, slightly chamfered joists. On the upper floor, a section of good Jacobean panelling has ornate lozenges in the panels and scribed designs on the rails and styles; one half-glazed door has panes of old bottle glass. The house is set sideways-on to the road; a C19 single-storey addition along the north side. Listing NGR: TM0158070123
