Description

FELSHAM BRETTENHAM ROAD TL 95 NE 3/39 Castle Farmhouse - II Farmhouse; built in two stages, mid C17 main range and late C16 cross-wing to right. Remodelling of c.1840. 2 storeys, the main range with attics. 3-cell lobby entrance plan. Main range added to earlier parlour wing. Timber- framed, the main range plastered. The left hand gable and the crosswing are encased in c19 gault brick, and a C19 chimney to right. 3-light casements of c.1840 with small panes; crosswing also having small-pane sashes. C20 framed and boarded door at lobby entrance position. Complete unmoulded C17 framing to main range: primary braced studding, on-edge floor joists, an ovolo-moulded bridging beam at service cell to left, clasped purlin roof. An open lintelled fireplace in the hall. Superior framing in crosswing: good unchamfered 1st floor joists laid flat, with double ovolo-moulding to main beams. Close- studding.
