Description

STOWUPLAND GIPPING ROAD TM 06 SE 5/177 - Gipping Farmhouse -- II Farmhouse, probably 1625 as dated on building. Remodelling of mid C19. 2 storeys. 3-cell lobby-entrance plan. Timber-framed; at the front encased in mid C19 red brick, and at the rear plastered. High in the rear wall is a date 1625 in raised plasterwork. Plaintiled roofs, probably once thatched. An axial chimney, mainly rebuilt in C19, but to rear a section of pink/buff brickwork is visible. C19 small-pane casements, those at ground storey with cambered heads. Mid C19 entrance porch, gabled and plaintiled with cusped bargeboards; 4-panelled door. Some unmoulded early C17 framing exposed internally, including an ovolo-moulded binding beam. To right is a lower service range added in C18 but with much reused timber from a medieval house. Associated with partial medieval moat. Listing NGR: TM0769761457
