- Gipping Farmhouse
-- II
Farmhouse, probably 1625 as dated on building. Remodelling of mid C19. 2
storeys. 3-cell lobby-entrance plan. Timber-framed; at the front encased in
mid C19 red brick, and at the rear plastered. High in the rear wall is a date
1625 in raised plasterwork. Plaintiled roofs, probably once thatched. An
axial chimney, mainly rebuilt in C19, but to rear a section of pink/buff
brickwork is visible. C19 small-pane casements, those at ground storey with
cambered heads. Mid C19 entrance porch, gabled and plaintiled with cusped
bargeboards; 4-panelled door. Some unmoulded early C17 framing exposed
internally, including an ovolo-moulded binding beam. To right is a lower
service range added in C18 but with much reused timber from a medieval house.
Associated with partial medieval moat.
