Description

HORHAM REDLINGFIELD ROAD TM 27 SW 5/48 Moat Farmhouse II Farmhouse. Early C17. Timber framed and plastered, the ground floor of the facade cased in colourwashed brick. Weatherboarded gable end to rear. Roof plaintiled to front and pantiled to rear. 2 storeys and attic. 2-cell, lobby entry type; the left cell extends to the rear as a short wing. Cl9 casement windows, 2 to ground floor, 3 to first floor. C19 gabled porch with 6-panel door (the upper 2 panels glazed) and fretted bargeboards. Lower portion of stack is original: oblong base and 4 truncated shafts grouped in sawtooth form, with double roll moulds at the base; above is a plain C19 shaft. Victorianised interior. Plain studding visible on first floor, with evidence for many original windows; the right hand chamber had a continuous row of 4 windows, alternately deep and shallow. Ovolo bridging beams in both ground floor rooms, the joists largely concealed. Newel stair to first floor and solid-tread attic stair. Roof has one row of clasped purlins and one-way cranked wind bracing. The house is surrounded by a medieval moat. Listing NGR: TM2031671525
