Description

GOSBECK PETTAUGH LANE TM 15 NE 4/74 Ryes Farmhouse - II Farmhouse; early C17, with core probably of late C16. 3-cell plan: the early C17 parlour cell is roofed as a cross-wing, and a late C16 rear wing is behind the service cell. 2 storeys, partly with attics. Timber-framed and plastered. Pantiled roof, once thatched; an axial early C17 chimney of red brick with sawtooth shaft. Mid C20 casements and gabled pantiled entrance porch, now on garden side. A little unmoulded framing exposed, with a diamond-mullioned window in the rear wing; butt-purlin roofs of early C17 type. Lintelled C17 open fireplace in the hall. Fragments of early C17- moulded plasterwork; one chamber retains a frieze with lozenges and other C17 motifs. Listing NGR: TM1697756912
