Description

TL 96 SW THURSTON STOCKHOLD GREEN 4/153 Stockhold Green Farmhouse -- II Farmhouse, C15 or early C16 with alterations of early C17 and mid C20. One storey and attics. 3-cell plan. Timber-framed and plastered. Thatched roof with axial C17 chimney of red brick (the shaft mainly rebuilt in mid C20). C19 casements. C20 half-glazed entrance door at rear. A 2-storey mid C20 extension at centre of front elevation: painted brick, thatched gabled roof. Interior: An open-hall house of which 2 original cells remain. A room with unchamfered medieval floor joists, and a 2-bay open hall with a little visible smoke-blackened studding. The open truss of the hall is missing. An inserted chimney has a large cambered lintelled open fireplace. In early C17 a 2-bay parlour block was added to left, on the site of the former service cell: chamfered floor joists laid flat and a bridging beam supported on jowls in the form of crude console brackets (one missing).
