Description

REDGRAVE THE STREET (SOUTH WEST TM 07 NW SIDE) 1/101 - Ivy Farmhouse 1.6.84 GV II House. Mid to late C16, extended C17, C18 and early C19; largely reroofed C19, part rebuilt and altered C20. Timber frame, plastered with panels to front. Black glazed pantiled roof with red pantiles to rear. 3 bay fully storeyed core originally had gable end to road, 1 bay added at right angles to front in C17, raised and reroofed to form a 2 bay frontage with a 4 bay service wing added to rear right and a 2 bay parlour added to left. 2 storeys with 1 storey and attic early core to rear. Early C19 parlour to front left has slightly higher roof. Towards centre a recessed 6 raised panelled door with a 3-light fanlight, architrave with cornice, ground floor transomed 3- light leaded casement, first floor 2 and 3-light leaded casements. Boxed eaves. Left end external stack with offsets. Remodelled early bays to right have 3-light leaded casements, transomed on ground floor, right end internal C19 stack. Right return C18 service wing projects slightly with a hip towards front from slightly taller ridge; forward bay has a half glazed door in a C20 open porch, 2 and 3-light glazing bar casements with hoodboards, a door into dairy towards rear, first floor three 6 pane architraved sashes and a 3-light glazing bar casement, a ridge stack between kitchen and dairy, brick rear gable end. To rear C19 parlour bays have a 6 panelled cross entry door, leaded 3-light casements, early core extending to rear centre has glazing bar casements, a 3-light dormer, rebuilt ridge stack to rear of centre on lower ridge, 2 doors in inner return of service wing. Interior: early core has a stop chamfered cross axial binding beam, studding of large scantling, a 3- light diamond mullioned window opening, arched braces in walling and to tie beam with pegs for queen posts, rear bay and stack rebuilt. C17 bay has frame concealed, jowled posts to originally lower eaves. C19 parlour addition has a staircase with slat balusters, a turned newel post and a moulded handrail. Service wing has ogee stop chamfered cross axial binding beams, through tension bracing, a clasped purlin roof. Listing NGR: TM0427178091
