Description

BARKING NEEDHAM MARKET ROAD TM 05 SE 2/40 Ashburnham Farmhouse - II Farmhouse; C16 core with alterations of mid C17 and mid C19. 2 storeys. Central C16 range with 2 crosswings. Timber-framed and plastered. Plaintiled roofs with axial chimneys of red brick. Mainly C19 small-pane sashes. C19 6- panelled entrance door, the upper pair of panels glazed. The right hand half of the main range contains the hall of a C16 house with heavy unchamfered joists and other framing. The service cell to right was almost or completely rebuilt in cross-wing form in mid/late C17. In mid C19 the walls of the main range (which had possibly already been lengthened) were raised and a new roof built. At the same time a parlour cross-wing was added to left.
