Description

MICKFIELD DEBENHAM ROAD TM 16 SW 2/146 - Shrubbery Farmhouse 3-5-77 GV II Former farmhouse. In 2 main stages, mid C16 and early C17; a lower C18 bakehouse range added to rear. 2 storeys; the parlour cross-wing also has attics, and the earlier section to left is of one storey with attics. Timber- framed and plastered. Thatched roofs; the crosswing has cusped C19 bargeboards on C17 carved brackets at the gable-feet. Axial C18 chimney of red brick. Mainly C19 small-pane sashes and casements. C19 thatched gabled entrance porch with cusped bargeboards and spike finial; C20 framed and boarded door. The C16 building is of 2 cells, formerly with a half-hipped roof at the left hand end. Heavy arch-braced studwork and clasped-purlin roof; a blocked 4-light diamond-mullioned window and evidence for others. This became the service end when a higher hall range with parlour cross-wing were added in early C17. The hall has part of a moulded plank-and-muntin cross-passage screen; ovolo-moulded main beams with intricate stops, and chamfered common joists laid flat. Listing NGR: TM1406761572
