MELLIS THE COMMON (NORTH WEST TM 07 SE SIDE) 3/24 Home Farm House GV II Farmhouse. c.1600, extended and altered C19. Timber frame, plastered. Steeply pitched plaintiled roof. An L on plan, 3 cell front range with 2 bay service wing to rear, extended in C19 to form a T. 2 storeys and attics. 4 window front, C19 3 x 3-light part opening metal frame casements. An entrance between parlour and hall bays to right, half glazed architraved door. In C19 addition to left a second entrance with a gabled bargeboarded porch, outer half glazed door. Double offset plinth. Boxed eaves. Axial ridge stack, now central. Service wing rear gable end entrance, exposed plates and purlins. A large C19 external stack behind a lean-to from originally inner face of service wing, altered in C20. Interior: Some exposed close studding, stop chamfered cross axial binding beams and joists. First floor room over parlour end has opposed base cruck blades to a raised tie beam. Service wing roof has butt purlins, collars to principal rafters, arched windbraces. Listing NGR: TM0957474562
