EYE TM1573 HOXNE ROAD 585-1/6/98 (North side (off)) 15/06/51 Abbey Farmhouse (Formerly Listed as: HOXNE ROAD Abbey Farmhouse. Remains of Chapel to North West) II House. Mid C16, incorporating in east wall part of west cloister range of Priory of St Peter, suppressed 1537. Front range refronted and altered c.1720. Brick, timber frame and re-used ashlar. Roofs of plaintiles (front range) and pantiles. Red brick laid in Flemish bond. EXTERIOR: 3 storeys. 6-window range. Plinth course. Two C19 doorways symmetrically placed in second and fifth bays, that to west with gabled late C19 porch, that to east with C20 pentice roof on posts. Over doors the windows on each floor are single-light C19 casements. Remainder of fenestration of 3-light C19 metal casements. All windows under segmental heads. Platbands at first and second floors. Hipped roof with two panelled ridge stacks. West return of banded flint and brick with ashlar quoins to north-west corner. One 3-light ground-floor C19 casement and one similar 2-light casement each floor above. East return with re-used ashlar blocks at intervals. Platbands between floors, each floor lit by one 3-light C19 casement. Rear with two hipped and one gabled wings, the former of one storey and dormer attic, the latter of one storey only. East wing with re-used ashlar, two ground-floor 3-light C20 casements, two C20 flat-topped dormers. INTERIOR: front range with chamfered bridging beams to both floors, rebuilt fireplace to east ground-floor room. At first floor is a chamfered 4-centred doorway communicating with rear wing and belonging to a range replaced by the early C18 front block. Rear east wing with two polygonal C15 principal posts of very heavy scantling, the southern one developing bowtell and casement mouldings at upper floor; both posts re-used from priory. Frame of rear wing of moderate scantling, with jowled principal posts and dragon struts to corners. Several C16 plank doors on strap hinges.
