Description

ASHFIELD CUM THORPE THE STREET TM 26 SW 5/9 High Row Farmhouse 9/12/55 - II Farmhouse. Early-mid C16. Timber framed, mainly plastered; left gable end cased in C19 red brick, right gable boarded. Plaintiled roof. 3-cell form, originally with cross-entry. 2 storeys. Mid C20 single-paned casement windows. Lobby entry with C20 boarded door. Internal stack, a later insertion, with original plain shaft set just behind the roof ridge. Mid C20 conservatory against left gable end. Interior. 5-bay frame, partly exposed internally. Hall and parlour have heavy plain ceiling joists and massive lintols over blocked fireplaces. Original plank and muntin screen against cross-passage. Service partition removed except for central post. Service end originally divided axially into 2: plain joists, mortices for a window with heavy diamond mullions. Cambered tie beam over hall chamber has one heavy brace, the other removed. Newel stair. Roof not examined. Listing NGR: TM2094562418
