Description

BEDFIELD DOG LANE TM 26 NW 2/19 Low Farmhouse GV II Former farmhouse. Late C16. Renovated 1985. Timber framed and plastered, roof of concrete pantiles. 3-cell, cross-entry type. 2 storeys. 4 windows, mid C20 3-light casements without glazing bars. Mid C20 half-glazed door, gabled hood. Internal stack with plain oblong shaft, probably original. Interior. Modernised, with some studding exposed on upper floor. Tie beam at left gable end has mortices for large diamond mullions. Cambered tie beam over hall chamber. Hall has chamfered-joist ceiling with mutilated bridging beam; against the cross-passage are the muntins of a plank and muntin partition. Adjacent service end was originally divided into 3 rooms: axially along the bridging beam, with a further division in the front half. Parlour has open fireplace with evidence for lining of the brick joints. Roof much rebuilt mid C20. Partial medieval moat. Listing NGR: TM2381566031
