BARKING BARKING TYE TM 05 SE 2/14 Moat Farmhouse GV II Farmhouse, mid C17. 3-cell plan with both cross-passage and lobby-entrance. 2 storeys and attics. Timber-framed and plastered. Plaintiled roof with C17 axial chimney of red brick, a pilaster shaft at the centre. C19 small-pane sashes. C20 plastered and plaintiled gabled entrance porch with pair of panelled doors. A good example of a C17 farmhouse with well exposed framing: close-studding, and exposed chamfered ceiling joists laid flat in some rooms and on edge in others. Principal-rafter roof with joggled butt purlins. Good back-to-back fireplaces, that in the parlour with a brick arch, that in the hall with cambered lintel. The house stands upon a site with an incomplete mediaeval moat. Listing NGR: TM0582351767
