BADLEY TM 05 NE 1/3 Bakehouse 15 metres south of Badley Hall (Formerly listed as Cottage adjoining 9.12.55 Badley Hall) II Outbuilding known as 'The Cottage', built as a bakehouse for Badley Hall, early or mid C16. 2-cell plan. 2 storeys and attics. Timber-framed and pebble-dashed, partly underbuilt in C19 red brick. Plaintiled roof. A large gable-chimney of red brick is possibly original, but the upper section is rebuilt; at each of several offsets, the brickwork is tumbled-in. Plaintiled roof. Slatted unglazed windows, the original openings have in some cases been retained with their diamond mullions removed. The main room is of 2 bays with a large lintelled fireplace and a cross-entry. The single-bay end room also has accommodation above, but the attic floor is a C17/C18 insertion. Clasped- purlin roof with reduced principals. Plain heavy timber-framing exposed throughout. N.M.R.
