Description

TM 06 NW BADWELL ASH BADWELL GREEN 5/2 Badwell Green Farmhouse II Former farmhouse. Early C18. Timber-framed and rendered; the east gable end faced with kidney flints and red brick; plaintiled roofs. 2 storeys; 3-cell main range; a 2-storey wing and a pantiled single-storey lean-to at the rear, both contemporary, or near-contemporary, with the front. 4 3-light old casement windows with original fittings to each storey of the front: transomes, and a single horizontal bar to lights. A half-glazed early C20 entrance door, formerly with a lobby-entrance against the internal chimney- stack which has a plain red brick shaft. Interior with framing exposed: bisected studs, primary braces, middle rail; main ceiling-beams reused from an earlier building. Roof with full principal rafters, clasped purlins, ridge piece. On the rear wall, one casement with old square leaded panes and another window with some old diamond leading. The house stands sideways-on to the road, and is a late example of the traditional 3-cell plan with the 3rd unit also heated. Listing NGR: TM0138969285
