Description
WORLINGWORTH NEWTOWN
TM 26 NW
5/121 Home Farmhouse
- II
Former farmhouse. Early C16. Timber framed and plastered under a half-hipped
pantiled roof. 2 storeys. 3-cell form. Mid C20 casement windows. Lobby
entry: C19 6-panel door, the upper 2 panels glazed. Internal stack. A later
stack at the service end has a square shaft. Single-storey lean-to against
right gable end. The frame has widely-spaced studding, exposed on the upper
floor. Plain ground floor joists, with original trimming for ladder stairs at
the service and parlour ends. All the floors appear to be integral with the
rest of the structure. Cambered tie beam over hall, with one of a pair of
short heavy arched braces to the wallposts. Evidence for 2 original 3-light
first floor windows at the service end, with large chamfered and diamond
mullions. The stack is a later insertion, preceded by a stud and plaster flue
in the same position. Newel stair by stack. Roof not examined.
