Description

ATHELINGTON TM 27 SW 5/2 Outbuilding 15m south west of Athelington Hall GV II Former cart lodge or stable. Early C17 with later alterations. Timber framed, mainly weatherboarded, the east gable end plastered. Pantiled roof. One storey and loft. In 3 bays; on the south side are 2 pairs of large boarded doors and one mid C20 metal garage door. Much later rebuilding in re- used C16-C17 material. One re-used beam is carved with scrolly foliage spouting from the mouths of 2 central dolphins, their tails intertwined. This may be a tie beam from the adjacent house (qv.Item 5/1). C19 upper floor. Good intact early C17 roof: 2 rows of butt purlins with 2-way cranked wind braces and heavy collars, one partly cut away. Listing NGR: TM2068971139
