Description

HINDERCLAY FEN STREET (SOUTH SIDE) TM 07 NW 1/43 Holiday Farm House -- II Farmhouse. Mid C16, part rebuilt and extended early C17, extended and altered C19, altered C20. Timber frame, plastered. Steeply pitched machine tiled roofs. A 3 cell cross entry plan with parlour end jettied, turned around with service end rebuilt as a 3 bay parlour cross wing. 1 storey and attic with 2 storey and attic cross wing. Entrance in original cross entry position to left of centre in a C19 lean-to outshut from C17 cross wing, part glazed 6 panelled door, shaped brackets to gabled hood, C20 1,2 and 4-light metal frame casements, a 2-light gabled dormer over hall. Cross wing to left has a round light in attic, exposed plates and double purlins; parlour is to rear with ridge stack in central bay, rebuilt cross-quadrate shaft, left return cased in C20 brick. Axial ridge stack on main range to right of centre between hall and original parlour. 2 bay C19 service addition to front of original parlour with glazing bar casements, C20 external stack on right return. To far right a half glazed door into main range. Right end jetty has large brackets, ground floor margin glazed window, exposed plates and double purlins; attached to rear right a 1 storey service outbuilding with a stable door. To rear C17 parlour gable end is brick cased with cambered heads to casements, an attic round light. Main range has a catslide roof over an open verandah with arched braces from timber uprights, two 2-light gabled dormers. Interior: frame largely concealed, an arched brace to cross axial binding beam in original parlour. C17 parlour and chamber have close studding, bar and indent stop chamfered binding beams, stop chamfered mid-rail. Listing NGR: TM0265078336
