Farmhouse. C16 and early-mid C17, in 2 or 3 main phases. C19 alterations and
additions. A long range at right angles to the road, with a slightly
projecting central cross-wing. Timber framed and plastered; C19 red brick to
gable ends. Plaintiled roof. 2 storeys and attic. Windows mainly mid C20
casements. C17 section to east of cross-wing has an original 5-light ovolo-
moulded mullion and transom window at first floor level. Gable end of wing
has an early C19 doorcase: reeded architrave with corner roundels and beaded
surround; frieze and cornice. Original panelled door with glazed upper
section, the top panes with arched glazing bars. 2 internal stacks with
Victorianised shafts. Section to west of cross-wing is the earliest: much of
the structure is concealed but the upper chamber has some studding and a fine
ceiling with a single roll moulding to the cross-beams and joists. 2 doors
made from C17 panelling, one of the doorways with 4-centre arched head.
Newel stairs. Cross-wing has exposed framing to upper floor; Victorianised
ground floor with C19 straight stair. C17 section includes service end, the
upper chamber unmodernised. Ground floor room has on-edge joists and against
the stack a re-used C15 beam with embattled decoration.
