Description

OLD NEWTON STOWMARKET ROAD TM 06 SE WITH DAGWORTH Rookyard Farmhouse 5/156 (formerly listed as 09/12/55 Rookery Farmhouse and barn) -- II Farmhouse; built in 2 stages, corner-to-corner: an early C16 service range to left, and a main range of c.1550 of 3-cell cross-entry plan to right. Timber framed and plastered. Hipped plaintiled roofs. Two axial C17 chimneys of red brick with sawtooth shafts; that to left has a moulded course to the plinth and is possibly later. Mainly early C19 small-pane windows: 3-light casements at 1st storey and tripartite sashes below. At cross-entry position is an early C19 doorway with slender fluted pilasters and cornice with paterae; early C20 panelled door, and another in left hand range. The main range has good quality mid-C16 framing with double-ogee moulded beams and joists. One of a pair of 4-centred arched service room doorways, with concealed carved spandrels. Wind-braced clasped purlin roof. The lower range is slightly earlier; the south gable has an altered end-jetty at 1st floor level. Unmoulded framing. The roof was rebuilt in C18/C19.
