Description

FRESSINGFIELD LAXFIELD ROAD TM 27 SE 8/33 - Pear Tree House ( formerly listed as 29.7.55 Peartree Cottage) -- II Farmhouse. Late C16 3-cell main range with early C17 2-cell cross-wing set forward to left. Timber framed and plastered; colourwashed brick to gable end of main range. Thatched roof. 2 storeys and attics. Various casement windows, mostly old; some mid C20 reproduction windows with diamond-leaded glass. The cross-wing has a number of windows with diamond and chamfered mullions, probably added in mid C20 when the house was restored. Lobby entrance with mid C20 gabled porch, now blocked. Mid C20 plank door to left, within an open timber porch. An internal stack to each range, that to the cross-wing rebuilt mid C20 in sawtooth form. The parlour end of the main range has ovolo-moulded bridging beams. Remains of medieval moat. Listing NGR: TM2785374802
