Description

MICKFIELD TM 16 SW 2/145 The Old Rectory - II Former rectory. Early C17 core, with remodelling in early C19 in the Gothick manner. Timber-framed and plastered with a deep coved cornice beneath the eaves; side and rear walls mainly encased early C19 in gault brick. Plaintiled roof, the ornate bargeboards have a scrolled pendant freize. An axial chimney of early C19 gault brick has 3 square shafts with moulded caps and bases (one altered); the plinth has a sunk panel beneath each shaft. 3 cell lobby-entrance plan. 2 storeys, partly with attics. Good early C19 windows: at ground storey 3 splayed bays, flat-roofed, with small-pane sashes; above each sash are 3 small glazed trefoiled heads with sunk spandrels. At 1st storey are 4-light leaded casements, each light having a trefoiled head. Matching entrance porch, flat-roofed, with fluted pilasters and 6-panelled door, the upper panels glazed; fanlight with a pair of trefoil-headed lights with enriched spandrels. In the parlour to right is a C17 ovolo-moulded beam; other framing is mainly concealed. Butt-purl in roof. A rear C18 timber- framed service wing to left, much remodelled in early C19.
