Description

EYE TM1474 LANGTON GREEN 585-1/5/157 (West side) 15/06/51 Langton Grove GV II Farmhouse. Early C17, remodelled early C19 and C20. Plastered and colourwashed timber frame with brick skin. Machine tile roofs. L-shaped plan consisting of north-south wing and east-west wing. EXTERIOR: 2 storeys and attics. South front is a two-window range. Early C19 gault brick skin. Rendered single-storey central porch with crenellated parapet and a 4-panelled door. Paired pilasters at corners. Ground floor with glazed verandah on timber posts. To left of porch one 4-light casement, to right a pair of 2-light casements. Two 4-light first-floor casements with hoods on label stops. Storing course and crenellated parapet. Gabled roof. North-south wing terminates with a stepped gable-end to left and a 3-light attic casement with similar hood-mould. East gable of early C17 brick laid in English bond on a brick plinth. At attic level are two 2-light blocked mullioned windows with chamfered jambs and central mullion. Stepped gable. Internal gable-end stack consists of square plinth carrying twin (rebuilt) octagonal flues. This gable returns in brick on north side and is lit through one 3-light hollow-moulded mullioned window to each floor. Rear wing of 2 storeys and dormer attic. Two C19 outshuts in entrant angle between wings. Varied fenestration including 2 and 3-light C19 metal casements at intervals. Gabled roof with one gabled dormer. INTERIOR: boxed bridging beams. North fireplace rebuilt. Timber frame of east-west wing has jowled principal posts and chamfered bridging beams. North-east first-floor room contains an early C17 8-panelled cupboard door. South wall with blocked 3-light hollow-moulded mullioned window. Listing NGR: TM1438374847
