Description
STONHAM ASPAL ANGEL HILL
TM 15 NW
5/160 Angel Hill Farmhouse
- II
Farmhouse; C15 or early C16, with C17 and mid C20 alterations. 3-cell plan.
Hall range of 1 storey and attics; parlour block to right of 2 storeys.
Timber-framed and pebble-dashed. Thatched roof with one eyebrow casement
dormer. Mainly mid C20 casements. Glazed C20 entrance door in rear lean-to
extension. The central formerly-open hall has a smoke-encrusted roof of
coupled-rafter type; beneath the thatch is an original latticework of
interwoven withies, heavily encrusted with smoke, in place of the normal riven
battens. The service cell has a later coupled-rafter roof, and the C17
parlour cell a wind-braced clasped purlin roof. The ground storey framing has
been greatly altered in C20, and at 1st storey is concealed; included despite
alterations because of mediaeval core, and in particular the features within
the roof.
