Description

MELLIS THE COMMON (SOUTH EAST TM 07 SE SIDE) 3/34 Cowpasture Farm House GV II Farmhouse. Mid C17, altered C19. Timber frame, plastered. Steeply pitched pantiled roof. 3 cell lobby entry plan. 2 storeys and attic. Entrance to right of centre in a 2 storey C19 gabled porch, 6 fielded panelled architraved door with flanking small sashes. First floor single glazing bar architraved sash, pierced bargeboards. Ground floor single glazing bar architraved sashes with hoodboards, first floor 3-light transomed part opening metal frame casements. Axial ridge stack to right of centre, broached base to 4 conjoined hexagonal shafts. Left gable end added external stack with offsets, 2 leaded lights in attic, exposed plates and purlins. Right gable end 2-light casements. To rear a pantiled lean-to outshut beind stack, 2 French windows, first floor single leaded light, cross casement and a 2-light gabled dormer. Interior: frame largely concealed, ground floor stop chamfered axial binding beams, stairs in front of stack, first floor stop chamfered cross axial binding beams, butt purlin roof with collars to principal rafters, cranked wind braces. A C20 link to rear left leads to a former stable/brewhouse building. C18. Timber frame, rendered with some red brick, pantiled roof. 2 boarded and 1 panelled door, a 2-light leaded casement, loft openings. Red brick to rear with an internal end stack, kneelers to gable and parapet. Listing NGR: TM0948174104
