Description

STOWMARKET TM0458 CROWE STREET 614-1/4/60 Abbot's Hall: stables GV II Also known as: Museum of Rural Life: offices CROWE STREET. Domestic stables with groom's accommodation to north end, the latter now offices. Late C19. Red brick under pantiled roofs. Block runs north-south with 2 cross-gables east and west, over the junctions of which are decorative cupolas. Groom's house attached to north. Cross gables each with 3 stepped rounded lancets beneath a ventilation panel. 3 segmental-headed centre-hung windows in centre block on west side. East side with 2 polychromatic brick piers with 4-centred arches in front of 2 carriage houses separated by harness room. Under cross wings are stables with cast-iron columns and railings and all original fittings. Harness room also with complete fittings. Groom's house with 6-panelled door, 6/6 horned sashes and a gabled dormer in front of a stack. Listing NGR: TM0473758458
