Description
HITCHAM 1. 5377 Old House TL 9851 48/364 23.1.58 II GV 2. A C16 and C17 timber-framed and plastered building said to be the former Guildhall. Built on an L-shaped plan with wings extending to the south-east and south-west. The roof of the south-west wing is tiled and the south-east wing is thatched. Two storeys. The older wing to the south-east has a jettied upper storey on exposed joists on the south-west side and exposed timber-framing. The windows generally are leaded casements. Four window range on the north-west front and a 6-panel door with a flat cornice hood on brackets. The roof has a large square chimney stack and an external stack at the south-east end.
