Description
TL 86 NW FORNHAM ALL SAINTS THE STREET
1/17 Bridge House
II
House, formerly Fornham Hall Farmhouse. Early C16 and early C19. Irregular form, in 3 phases of building. At the north-west end, a one-and-a-half storey range, timber-framed and rendered with plaintiled roof, which formed the original farmhouse: 3-cell plan, with an internal chimney-stack and plain red brick shaft. Various windows: some original diamond mullions in one gable wall; one flat-headed dormer. Side purlin roof, over a doubled wallplate. Extending south-eastwards from this range is a timber-framed one-and-a-half storey block added during the C17, and fronted in early C19 white brick. The principal part of the house is a 2-storey, T-shaped block added in the early C19, which doubled the building in size. White brick and slates, with the rear walls in rubble flint; string course; plain overhanging eaves. Small- paned sash windows in cased frames with shallow reveals: on the south-east gable wall the 2 ground-storey windows are very deep, reaching almost to ground level; on the main south-west front, 2 tripartite sash windows, one inserted in mid C20. 6-panelled door with sunk panels under a plain portico supported on square reeded columns.
