Abstract/Summary

The excavation of a 24 square metre towards the rear of number 26 Westgate Street, Ipswich in advance of the construction of an extension to the existing Marks and Spencers retail outlet revealed a number archaeological features. Seven phases of activity were subsequently identified, relating to four chronological periods suggesting that activity on the site has been continuous from at least the Late Saxon Period up to the present day.
