Description
TM 37 NW LINSTEAD PARVA MAIN ROAD
2/110 Bridge Farmhouse
- II*
Farmhouse, now subdivided into 2 dwellings. The core comprises a 2-bay late C14 raised aisled hall; early C16 parlour wing to left, C18 service wing to right (replacing the original service range); further extended to left early C20. Timber framed, modern roughcast render; thatched roof, half-hipped to the left. 2 storeys. Various C19 and C20 casement windows; mid C20 door and semi-circular thatched hood. 2 of the first floor windows are set within a large mid C20 eyebrow half-dormer. 2 internal stacks. The raised aisle structure is substantially complete: the central truss has heavy arched bracing and simple roll moulding and broach stops to the bases of the arcade posts. The framing of the lower gable end of the hall is mostly intact: within the roofspace the gable wall retains the original plasterwork, an unusual survival. Simple crown post of basically square section with broach stops, braced one-way to the collar purlin. Much of the original roof structure survives, heavily sooted. Exposed joists to inserted floor. The parlour has fine exposed joists on the ground floor, evidence for original first floor windows and a queen post roof.
