Listed Building: HOO HALL (286490)

HOO CHURCH LANE TM 25 NE (West side) 5/76 Hoo Hall 16/3/66 GV II House. C16 and C17 with C19 additions and alterations. Timber framed with colourwashed render and brick skin with a pantile and plaintile roof. Two storeys with an attic and two storeys. Entrance front: refaced in later C19 white brick with 3 bays near-symmetrically disposed with a central tri- partite doorway having a ½-glazed door with 2 lower raised and fielded panels and 3x3 panes to the upper body and windows of lx3 to either side. Porch with square fluted pillars and pilaster responds. Sash windows at either side of 4x4 panes with slightly cambered splayed heads. The first floor has three similar windows. Black pantiles to the roof on this front. To the ridge at left is a massive chimney stack of 4 flues. Right hand gable end: sash window to the ground floor at left of 4x4 panes and a 3- light casement to the first floor at left and a 2-light gabled dormer at right. To right of this is a further small lean-to with a late C19/early C20 half-glazed door with a classical surround and pediment. Recessed and to right again is the C16 wing which has a lean-to outshut to the ground floor with a pantile roof and a doorway at right, a 3-light window at left and a 2-light window at right. Two 2-light dormers divided by a king mullion above this. Left hand end: two gables that at right being of early-C19 date that at left of mid-C19. The right hand gable end has French windows to the ground floor and a 2-light C20 casement to the first floor. To left of this is a mid-C19 wing with Flemish bond brick and a glazed C20 doorway to the right with a cambered head and a sash window at left of 3x2 panes with a similar window to the first floor. Rear: C20 openings to the mid-C19 range with a 3-light window at right and 2-light window at left to both floors. The C16 gabled projecting range at left of this has to its right hand flank a glazed door at far right, a stable door at left of this with a 3-light casement immediately to left of it. Further 3-light window to far left. Two 3-light casements to the first floor, probably of C19 date. Interior: the early C19 range has raised ceilings to the ground floor rooms, indicating the possible presence of an earlier core. Central hall way with arched recesses at either side. The C16 wing has chamfered ceiling beams, plain joists and some C18 replacement timber to the close- studded walls. Listing NGR: TM2559659319
