Description

TM 38 SE SPEXHALL HALL LANE 2/23 Grove Farmhouse - II Called Spexhallgrove farm on map. Farmhouse. C16 timber-framed core, encased in early C19 colour-washed brick. Black glazed pantiles; corbelled gables; 2 internal chimney-stacks with plain square white brick shafts. 2 storeys, formerly with attics to main range; it storeys to a wing, set back, at right-angles to the front. 2-light and 3- light early C19 mullion-and-transome type windows, in deep reveals with segmental-arched heads, to each storey. Lobby-entrance against the stack; entrance door within a slightly projecting 2-storey porch with flat roof and moulded cornice, the door itself recessed, with 6 flush panels, and the surround with half-round pilasters, plain architrave, and flat pediment. 3- cell main range, with most timbers covered: one main beam with wide chamfer and stepped stops. Newel stair against the internal stack. The wing, in 3 bays, added as a service range. The remains of a moat surround the house. Listing NGR: TM3758081546
