Description

SOUTH ELMHAM CAPP'S LANE, ALL SAINTS TM 38 SW ALL SAINTS & ST. NICHOLAS 4/30 Meen's Farmhouse - II Farmhouse. Part late C16, part C18. 2 storeys and attics. The right side is timber-framed and rendered, the left side is in red brick with a pattern of blue headers; clay pantiles; 2 end chimney-stacks, that on the right within a thick red brick gable. Both gables have high copings and corbels. 2 dormers with sloping, single-pitch roofs and 2-light casement windows; 5 windows to the upper floor, 2-light C20 replacement casements; on the right, 2 similar but longer 2-light casements to the ground floor; and on the left a replacement window with arched head to frame, set into an older opening with segmental arched head of gauged brickwork. C20 door. Basically an end- chimney house of 4 bays, extended by a further bay and a second end stack in the C18. The brickwork on the left side overlaps the earlier timber frame. The framing of the right side is good, with close studding, arched braces at the corners, and cambered tie-beams supported by long arched braces. The 2- bay ground floor room has a deeply-chamfered main beam, curved stops with a double bar, and shaped heads to the main posts. The 2 parts of the roof are very similar: one row of clasped, and one row of stepped butt purlins. On the right side the collars are cambered, and on the left they are straight. A 1½- storey red brick wing at the rear was added in 1982 in traditional style, and is not included in the listing. Listing NGR: TM3295182367
