SOUTHWOLD TM5076 SOUTH GREEN 588-1/7/129 (North side) 22/11/71 May Place GV II Includes: Nos.7 AND 7A May Place Cottage (No.7A) QUEEN STREET. House, now three dwellings. Mid C18; altered and extended c1840, further extension later in C19; altered again in early C20 and subdivided 1953. Red brick with gault-brick front; shallow pitched hipped roofs, slate at front, black-glazed pantiles at rear; four panelled stacks of brick, irregularly disposed. EXTERIOR. South Green front: 2 storeys, 3 bays with single-storey extension to left. Main front has projecting single-storey square porch in centre entered through glazed double-leaf doors: inside are C20 part glazed double doors with engraved glass beneath 7-vaned fanlight. To right and left of porch are full height bows, fitted on ground floor with 3-light casements. First floor has three French windows with glazing bars, each opening on to continuous wrought-iron balcony supported on posts. Extension has 4/4 and 6/6 horned sash windows, the left one converted to fixed window, in a canted bay. Queen Street front: 2 storeys with irregular fenestration. On ground floor are 6-panelled door to No.7 Queen Street and five mixed sashes and tripartite sashes, all with glazing bars and painted skewback arches. First floor has projecting square bay window on brackets fitted with sashes with glazing bars and three further simple sashes. INTERIOR: May Place: right front room has painted ceiling c1904 by Granville Elves, comprising 24 square panels containing portrait heads of local children floating under cloud background: Greek key frieze to cornice.
